Of Buccaneers and Anacondas…
May 4, 2010 by Clarissa Angeles filed under Poetry | 466 views‘Tis the season of choice
the time when they roam around with amity
behind their social facade
a state of agog their audience display
when affable they seem on stage
they talk of nothing but allotting a portion of their earnings
for the economically-deprived, they say
they speak of nothing but releasing the nation
from the chains of poverty and war
Some audience members are in a state of quandary
they seemed perplexed and so try to affront and daunt them
for these members have doubts and qualms
thinking that they will be people in yoke
people in bondage to poverty and war much more.
Sure, ‘tis the season of choice
when some of the audience know nothing
of the snakes’ schemes in the offing
‘Tis the season of choice
when some of them know nothing
of the pirates’ ace maneuvers to rob the nation
‘Tis the season of choice when others see their false dominion
their bedraggled images behind their plush appearances
their infamy and gluttonous acts
when they are already in eminence on the throne…
Now, where in the world is the tranquility they promised?
Where is the abundance they planned to set ablaze?
In their zeal to acquire power, fame and fortune,
they have forgotten how to be what the people expected them to be…
they became buccaneers of the sea
and anacondas of the land.
Vote wisely!

Thanks for sharing this piece, Ms. Clarissa.
Indeed, it’s the season of choice. As I write this, the people has spoken. I don’t think I like what they said (what with Erap still garnering 2nd highest vote in the presidential race), but it’s great to be able to exercise our rights once again.
I just hope that the chosen ones will deliver their promises.
