Filipino Author Wins 2008 Man Asian Literary Award

A “fictional account of a young Filipino caught within a notorious scandal spanning over the Philippine history,” Ilustrado is also this year’s Palanca grand prize winner in the novel category.
Authors who made it to the shortlist are: Kavery Nambisan (Indian), The Story that Must Not be Told; Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi (Indian), The Lost Flamingoes of Bombay; Yu Hua (Chinese), Brothers; and Alfred A. Yuson (Filipino), The Music Child.
Established in 2006, Man Asian Literary Awards aims to “recognize the best of new Asian literature and to bring it to the attention of the world literary community.” The Award’s first ever winner was Chinese writer Jiang Rong, with his novel Wolf Totem.
